So, I decided to start drawing in the realism style. Here's me first attempt: [link]

It isn't great, but I want to continue and learn. Do any more experienced artists have tips on photorealistic art? I think I need it.

Desperately.

 Thank you!

Some darker values in certain areas of the line work would really step it up a notch.

Pencils come in different varieties. It looks like you are using a light, hard pencil. They offer darker, softer pencils that will give you much darker values. I usually use a 6B-8B for darker values.

I see. Thank you. ^_^

Yeah, I think I'm only using your basic HB 2. Not an Artist's pencil in the least. I'll pick up some better stuff later.

You have to give a huge importance to the shadows. The shapes are important only for the beginning and for proportions, but once you have them, WORK AND WORK the shadows.. This will give volume and much more realism to your drawing.

Anyway, i see that your proportions are very good for this drawing, so keep on with much more shadows. Don't hesitate, don't be afraid of making big contrasts, it will help a lot. : )
