What's the Character Limit in a Comic Strip?

I'm currently working on a comic strip and have a whole bunch of characters I want to work on but I'm not sure if there's a limit for a cast of characters for a comic strip.

Most strips I've read have just a few characters but I really want to have a huge cast(Like up to 20 characters)

Have you ever read Far Side? It had an endless cast.

I meant main cast of characters like Foxtrot or Garfield. The Far Side had random characters for each strip.

As long as you make it easy to keep track of everything, I don't see why not...

Well, there's definitely no enforced limit :)

I like comics with large ensemble casts. I don't read all that many, but look at something like Diesel Sweeties as an example: there are probably still less than 20 characters in all, but it handles a rotating cast pretty well. The fact that there is no "main" character was kind of jarring when I first started reading it, but now I actually really like that structure.

The only limit is how good you are at developing them all within your plot, so have fun :)

There's not really a law or anything. Just make sure that your characters are easy enough to remember, or shallow enough that the readers won't have to remember them, and that you don't carry too many subplots at once.

This might be catastrophic.

No limit at all. Just make sure you can keep tabs on everyone, and maybe work out whose your main cast and whose supporting.

How big are your panels?
If you're concerned about how many characters you have, cut out any that have quite a few similarities.
