I'm just curious what sizes do you digital illustrators work with out there? Right now I'm practicing with one that's 2384 x 3152, with it's file size over 70mb. Is that normal? Because my laptop obviously has trouble running smoothly with it, and crashes once in a while.

depends on how detailed you want it. for me, the bigger the better. I cant say exact canvas sizes, but easily in the 3k's.

hello, i think 2384 x 3152 is quite big, especially for me, the art program might hang very long ...
i normally will use around 1800x1300 ... unless someone request for higher resolution.

It all depends on the project. Whether it's something meant to be small, like a wallpaper for your desktop or a print that's going to be put on a canvas and framed. I work on an image as large as I want it to be, so I can make smaller copies if necessary. Once you make it, you can't go bigger without losing quality.
How big the file is also has an affect on whether your computer can handle it or not, as you've come to find out. I've worked on files that were as big as 2gb and took over a half hour to save.
