Sadly I didn't stumble upon the contest until today:/ I'm looking for some decent ones, are there any others? I know there are, but for me it's been difficult especially since I am 16...not 18... Best of luck to everyone who entered!

When I see it open I think to myself, "Maybe, I should?". Then I take one look at the winners and runners up from the previous year, realise I don't have a snowball in Hell's chance of even getting past the first round and tell myself, "Maybe next year when my stuff improves!".
Actually most competitions don't. Most people enter photos in most competitions that they have already taken. How you do in the competition does not make you improve because you are submitting work you might have done ten years ago. For instance, if I were entering this, I'd probably tweak and submit a certain photo I took back in 1998, because it already won some awards and it would have the best chance of winning. Now if they assigned you a subject to take photos of, and did not accept your old photos, that might help you improve.
He was referring to the reason to do photography. No reason to troll someone on semantics who isn't from an English speaking country. What photography is "about" varies from person to person and I really doubt many do it because it is the act of using light to create images. For some photography is about harnessing a moment in history. For others it is about exposing beauty. Others it is about capturing sureality. The list goes on forever. There is no wrong answer.
I didn't troll him, I called him out because of the way he wrote what "photography is all about", made it seem like that's the reason why everyone does photography. I had no idea he was a he or that he came from a different country until you told me. I rarely visit profiles from the forum.
