I am preparing to purchase Photoshop CS6. I currently use CS2 and have not upgraded all these years. I used the free trial of CS6 and love it, want to buy. I noticed that I can purchase it from Walmart (!) online for only 572.14 - a savings of 126.86! But - why is it so much cheaper there? I have gone through the specs line by line and it looks identical to the one on the Adobe site. But, Why? Any thoughts or opinions would be most welcome, thanks
If you just want to get photoshop, and not the whole creative suite, look into getting one for a education discount (if you are a student, or know one) Journeyed.com has it for like $200, and all you need is a "student ID" to buy it. Keep it mind that it is a "student version". It is still the same exact program, but technically you are not allowed to publish work, or make money from it. Adobe will never hunt you down though
Buying power I guess. We have the TESCO chain here in the UK, they are similar to the US Walmart chain, they have so much money and so much power that when they buy in bulk they make absolutely colossal savings per unit. TESCO and to a slightly lesser extent Sainbury's have made so much money over the years that they now also have their own finance and banking arms that supply loans, mortgages and credit cards, these were simply grocery stores at one point.
I assume you have consumer rights protection there in the US? Buy the product and try it, if it fails to meet your expectations or you know it was sold under false pretences then take it back. The one advantage of huge stores is that I have found is that they rarely argue about returns if they are taken back within "a reasonable amount of time".
It is exactly the same software, if you are worried about it just buy the WalMart copy then download a copy from the Adobe site and just punch in the activation code from the box you bought at WalMart. WalMart is cheaper because they exert tremendous pressure on companies to sell them product for cheaper than any competitor so they can always have the lowest prices.
Also on a side note, you can subscribe to Photoshop for $19.99 month ($240 / year) and get access to the latest version as soon as it is available. Much better deal than $570 in my opinion. [link]
ok, well, I guess I need to be more specific ~ Has anyone had experience or heard of a reason why the software would be so much cheaper there? I am talking about quality or any other reasons.
There is no reason. It's honestly just that Walmart is cheaper. If you do some homework you'll probably find it for even less. Companies are paying a much cheaper price for the product because they are purchasing it in bulk to sell. Walmart purchases enough to offer a substantial discount when compared to other merchants, even the manufacturer.
