A better place for photography. Escaping DA

:iconcorporealdream:
I think I've seen enough teens taking mirror portraits with daddy's camera.
this place is becoming to much like facebook.

so where else do you post your photos? what other sights do you recommend that have a more professional image?

I'm currently starting a profile on [link]
if I like it there I may subscribe, unless anyone can recommend better.

Check out DigitalRev. That is a photography community. I really enjoy it.

I personally think dA is still pretty decent, there are some photographers on here who are more active than on other sites and have beautiful work.

Flickr and 500px are great, especially since they are geared more towards photography.

It's sad that most of the popular photos are some naked ladies that are judged only by the looks

I am a teenaher, but I don't take all that crappy photos. I really get annoyed when people give sweeping generalisations, but because the vast majority of older teens are idiots >.>

Basically I use both Flickr and Deviant Art. I must say that I feel that Deviant Art has a more nice home feel to the place, easier to talk to and get to know people, where as Flickr seems more sterile, bland and souless. This doesn't make Flickr bad, just that I prefer Deviant Art for the people and the community.

Second that!

I've tried Flickr, Photobucket, 500px and none of them are a patch on DA. DA has a real cohesive sense of community and while the groups system may not be perfect on DA it does work a hell of a lot better than the rubbish I've fought against and given up on on other sites.

OP, I think you simply need to crank up your bullshit deflectors, sure there's some right shite on DA, as there is on other sites, but if you work the system properly, get in with the right groups, you can still get to the real meat on DA and generally avoid the dross.

Photocamel has a wide variety of genre and help forums. There are guys there with 30, 40 years or more experience giving out a wealth of free information. There are some great shots on largeformatphotography.info/forum. Model Mahem is the best place to learn post processing.

Deviantart has the best community, flickr and 500px are more professional which I'm considering joining after I get a bit more experienced. Tumblr is fun and really inspirational.

I use Flickr and 500px. While I find the content on 500px to be very inspirational, I find the community itself to be a bit lacking. I love Flickr's image processing and clean design, but their groups / forums are disorganized at best. I stick around DA for the community, I stick around the others for their clean presentation.
