Im on shutter stock, Im only putting up my nature photography on their website. They take 80% commission charge and you only get 20%. I only have 22 images on the website and have made 10$ so far.
The market for micro stock images is very large, however it isn't photographers it is designers. The problem is though that the supply for micro stock is also titanic. Assuming you are posting images that are of quality of are somewhat unique it just becomes a numbers game, it is possible to make decent money selling micro stock but it means having a portfolio of a very large number of images up for sale which can take years to accumulate.
I am considering working part time, and when I feel confident enough with my photography skills, to keeping uploading as much as I can onto the website and hope that I shine a little.
I've been warned it'll take years, But, its the best way, as an amateur to get my skills up... I think?
Well, it definitely can't hurt. Taking stock photos is a lot of work and will force you to get better in order to make money. You definitely would get lots of skill in the technical aspect of photography. However, because of the nature of stock you can't really focus on composition or creative photography because you have to take generic photos that can be used for anything.
That's very nice! I haven't the confidence in myself yet to take pictures of humans. That and I'd need somebody in my life willing to let me photograph them.
What's the payment rate on Getty? How much of one sale do you get? If I may ask?
I recently passed the QC test, and have started submitting photographs.
Since I am new at this, I am interested if anybody would take the time to show me their photographs that have sold on the site.
I am trying to get a little grasp of the market!
Thank you! <3
-Cheers!
