What was your first camera and how did it spark your enthusiasm for getting creative with photography?
I started off with a Sony A200 and it has definitely paved the way for sticking with the brand and expanding on what I begun with. It's also inspired me to get better equipment along the years, especially this year - and to find out the limitations of the brand in comparison to other popular ones.
My first camera was an itty bitty camera that used 110 film. I called it my 'Spy Camera' and ran around the neighborhood taking pictures of random things. The next camera I remember was an APS camera and I took a LOT of pictures of my cats and sunsets. Then I've had a few kodak digital cameras, and then went back to a Pentax 35mm camera for a few high school photo classes and for my own use. Then I needed to switch to digital because I was using ~8-10 rolls of film on my photo outings... I've since had a Canon XT Rebel, Canon 40D and a Nikon D5100 is the one I have now. I also have a Nikon P110 or whatever that doesn't get used as often.
My grands gave me a camera when they took me to Japan for graduating High School a year early (they were going anyway, and I think they felt guilty for never sending me to Space Camp after promising too). I think it was a Canon or something. 55 mm lens, 35mm roll film. I shot so many pics it jammed and then I tried to take it apart like I always do with things I break and couldn't get it back together again. I still got a couple great pics with it though.
I only started taking serious photos last summer; it was with the cheap Canon bridge camera that my family has. It ain't perfect, but I have since mastered the manual setting; I started with macro photos, and I'm coming back to them now.
I'm 14 years old, so I guess I'm pretty early. Trust me, Canon vs. Nikon, Canon all the way!
I was 21. Just got my first DUI... I wrapped my car around a pole after leaving a bar late one night. The day my mother bailed me out of jail she said to me "You Need A New Hobby" she went out and bought me an Olympus 5mp. Which was mind-blowingly awesome for 2001... She then suggested I take a trip down town (kansas city missouri) and shoot what catches my eye... Well what happened to catch my eye was the homeless people... I paid each homeless person I spoke to 5$ and gave them a sandwich to have them tell me their story & let me photograph them. The rest is history! Phenomenal Question You Asked!
My first camera was a Kodak Ektra 12 - one of those slimline 110 film cameras that used a little cassette / cartridge of film. I was given that at about the age of 10 or 11. I had that for a while before breaking it - at which point I migrated to 35mm point & shoot cameras (I had a couple like the Halina 150 & 160). Part way through secondary school I saved up for an SLR (Ricoh XR-X) - I loved that camera and thought I got some pretty good results with it (although looking back, the results were appalling - but printing them out at 6x4 meant that the worst of the quality was masked unintentionally). When I went to college, I decided to go autofocus and I invested in a Canon EOS (I can't remember whether it was a 600 or 650), but then when I went to uni, I was burgled and the camera stuff went... My insurance covered a nice upgrade to a single body (Canon EOS 50e - which I still have, 16 or 17 years later) and a small selection of lenses... Since then I've gone digital through an EOS 300D, 40D, 5D & 7D - all of which I still have (and with the exception of the 300D, all of which are still in regular use)...
I fell out of love with photography while I was at uni (after the burglary and the novelty of the new camera wore off) to the point where I would shoot maybe half a dozen rolls of film during summer holidays and pretty much nothing else. My first DSLR changed all of that overnight...
My parents bought me a Samsung P1000 (it looks like this [link] only it was silver) for my 12th birthday. I hadn't asked for a camera but they bought me one anyway. Then my friend ~WB-MF showed me dA when I was 13 and I thought drawing would be pretty simple and I would soon be uhmazing. Found out I was pants at drawing, dug up my old camera thinking photography would be easy... ahaha nope. My first full year of owning a camera (2009) was really not very creative- I barely used it! Then I came to dA in 2010 and my photos were rubbish but I thought I was being oh-so-creative. 2011 I actually began to take some half decent things, I learnt how to use my camera, I learnt about shutter speed, aperture etc. I also learnt the limitations of my camera, and by the end of the year I was 'ready' for a new one. April 2012 I got my new camera- my grandparents bought me a Fujifulm Finepix HS20 bridge camera (looks like this [link] ) for my 15th birthday/Christmas. And that's where I am now! I am hoping to get a dSLR when I get a job but I have to wait until I'm at least 16 before I can get a real job anyway. 2010: 2011: 2012: I cringe at my 2010 stuff.
I have nooo idea when I first started with photography; but like 6 years ago or so? I started with a nikon coolpix pns, which was pretty decent, but have no idea where the pictures are maybe they self combusted since they were that bad
