Would you buy a BW only camera?

Leica are making a bit of news with their release of monochrome only digital cameras. Leica obviously have a position where they could issue a camera that would only shoot skyblue-pink and some people would fall over themselves to buy it, just for the name.

If the price was right and more reasonable, would you buy a monochrome only camera or do you think it's simply a gimmick that will die a quiet death after fus dies down?

By that same logic any digital camera is meaningless. What does black and white have anything to do with it? The catch though is that "appealing" is subjective. Not everyone prefers the look an old film camera creates nor does everyone like having to manage film or wait until post to see their images.

I'm pretty sure I didn't say that all digital camera are meaningless...

Buying a digital black and white only camera is pointless because all the other digital camera already have a monochrome mode (an awful mode by the way). I talked about film camera because I think the result is better with film.

If you like B&W photography a pure B&W digital camera does have huge advantages. (If done correctly) If they really use a modern sensor with all color filters removed you'll get much better dynamic range and resolution out of it than when doing a color shoot and converting it later. It does however mean that you have to work with color filters during the shoot, limiting you in terms of post processing later. (I really like to play around with different color settings to turn an image B&W, that of course only works if you have a color photo)

I think it comes down to how helpful removing that color filter array really turns out being. If the details are significantly better and dynamic range is much wider I think that it is absolutely a very good option for those who don't enjoy shooting color. If the benefit turns out to be marginal I can't see it being worth completely forsaking the ability to shoot in color.
