Hello, I'm not a photographer but I do take photos for drawing/painting inspiration and I love taking photos of chess players. I wanted to know where exactly do I stand if I want to show some of my portraits of chess players? Let us presume that they aren't aware of the photo and most of the time I don't know their names to contact them, do I own these images or do the people in them own them, do I have the right to publish them?
I've found my answer thanks, here in France there are laws concerning the use and 'droits d'image' that don't exist in the UK. Basically, some I can show and some I'd need permission
The French legal system is loosely based on the code Napoleon. Most of the English-speaking world has a legal system that is loosely based on English common law. They are not very similar and we can't really do much more than guess.
