HELP!! Brand new D7000 + Sigma 17-70mm f2.8. Cant change the aperture!

:iconmartinasdf:
Hello! I just got a brand new Nikon D7000 and a sigma 17-70mm f2.8 macro lens. But I cant change the aperture, or f-stop.. Ive tried the wheel and in the menu, but nothing works on this lens. I also got a sigma 70mm f2.8 macro lens and a sigma 10-20mm lens that both work perfectly fine.

Can anyone please help me?

This is a symptom that the lens and camera are not communicating properly. Since other lenses work your camera sounds fine. Make sure the lens is fully snapped into place when mounted.
Sometimes communication is lost when the lens release button is touched even slightly (easy to do on this camera). The solution is to press the lens release button then twist the lens part way off and them solidly snap it back into position (firmly but not violently). If that doesn't help there may be a problem with some of the electrical connections on the base of the lens. Check to make sure those are OK.

Does the lens have a manual aperture adjustment ring on it? If so make sure it is set as the F-stop (wide open). If it isn't exactly at that setting the camera might assume you are trying to manually change aperture or just error. I run into the issue fairly often when I sometimes accidentally nudge the ring on my lenses.

Is there a switch on the lens that says "Lock"? Try toggling that if it's there.

Does the attached lense have a switch on the side of it? One that says A or M? if so then switch over to M and then you should be able to fiddle with the rest of the settings.

Maybe the lense is defective? Have you tried reaching out to people who sold it to you? Sometimes I look on Amazon to see the reviews a certain product has to determine if I got a lemon or not.

But based on what you are saying it seems like you may have gotten a defective lense.
