Cleavage Vs. Amazing Work

Yes, you read the subject right.

In this thread, I am going to be talking about an aspect of DeviantArt that really bugs me. It's just, today I saw this pretty girl who uploads busty self portraits. But it's not the fact of her being revealing that it annoys me (Why would it?). But the fact that she has ~alot~ of watchers, favourites, and general recognition even though she just joined this week...

The only reason most of these people have a lot of recognition is because they have big breasts. But they put little to no effort in to create the image. Whereas people like me who put effort into their photography and have been on DA for ages and have got zilch recognition even from the countless hours spent on DA etc. (Not saying all of these people put no effort in, some you can see they really care for their work).

Anyway there is my moan for today, what are your opinions on this subject anyway?

Yeah, he doesn't have random boob photos, which shows me he's actually serious about photography :p

You can't put serious effort into photos of boobs? What I think she meant is that the OP doesn't have any "well composed, well lit photos" in his gallery. Many are not even in focus.

Of course you can, but there's a difference between a well thought out artistic nude photo, and just a random shot of cleavage, like we mostly have on dA.
But you're right, he does seem to have some OOF shots in his gallery, which is kinda odd...not really the gallery I remember seeing...must've confused him with someone else.

Well, now we're getting into the area of skill. Most of the people here on DA are not that skilled, but even if they were, I'd bet 90% of the skilled photographers here would have serious problems with nudes. Nudes are one of the most difficult subjects in existence to shoot. They are monochrome, so you have all the technical difficulty of shooting snowscapes or sand dunes, plus you have all the problems of portrait photography, plus skin flaws, sagging flesh, scars, birth marks, tattoos and so on that clothing would hide in other kinds of photography, and finally, you have to do it all so it looks like art instead of pornography. It is extraordinarily difficult.

This should probably go in complaints. As for what you just said, I agree that it's unfair: people who use their sexuality to manipulate people usually get more attention than the people who work really hard and don't. That's life.
But if you keep working really hard, and putting yourself out there, you're going to get recognized. Don't worry about people that don't affect you and focus on your artwork.
