Where do you guys get your inspiration from?

:iconshalianel:
Hi there, everyone!

So I recently had a chat with this writer I know, and we started talking about how we find inspiration. That made me curious - there are so many artists on here, where do you guys get your inspiration from? What do you do if you get stuck, or really want to do a shoot outside (as an example) but have no idea what to do for it?

I'd love to hear where you get your ideas from, or how you defeat artists' block!

You're also welcome to share your opinion on my blog (where I wrote an article about this exact question): [link]

So, tell me! :)

100% dependent on mood, I try and reflect it in my photography. If i'm down, my images tend to be darker, when I'm happy I try and utilize bright colours. I sometimes see images i'd like to replicate or take inspiration from, however have never succeeded doing so without completely putting my own spin on them

Isn't the point in drawing inspiration from someone else's image that you put your own spin to it? Otherwise you'd be copying it!
It sometimes depends on my mood, too, although I have more often used photography to cheer myself up when I'm upset. It's a great way for me to think about something happy and cheerful while I'm down, and usually works great for me! :)

I find inspiration from anything that comes from a creative mind and heart. When I'm making photomanipulations, I will be going through model stock and find something that is so different and unique and creative that it inspires me with so many ideas for it. Then I become extremely determined to make something from it. With photography, I often love taking photos of things that are created more than a scene. This changed with concert photography though. With muso photography, I find that the amount of creativity and compassion they put into a song inspires me to take photos that I would be proud of and want to be seen. When writing music, I find inspiration from stories (whether fiction or life stories) and things that have happened.

Wow, you work in a lot of different areas! :wow: It's great that you found a way to find inspiration for each of them, kudos to you for being so incredibly creative! Do you ever find it difficult to work with so many different areas? Music, manipulations, writing songs, other photography - you sure sound busy!

Haha, thank you! No, I don't actually. Sometimes I'll be in a bit of a block as to what would make a photomanipulation or song feel more whole, but I'll just leave it and switch to drawing chibis for a while. :3
Not as busy as you think I am.

I agree, leaving things if it's not working is sometimes the best thing to do
Ha, it just sounds like you're the busiest person in the world then! :D Either way, I still think it's great that you can work in so many areas :)

I literally just walk around and take pictures of EVERYTHING! I still have so many to upload.. I also seem to get the most inspiring Idea's at the most awkward times (like when I'm going to sleep, or out shopping with friends) so make sure you always have something to note idea's down with, I use notepad on my phone ;) Another thing I do is look for the best things in different peoples art and merge them along with your own Idea's for an original piece full of great ideas
Best thing to do is keep your mind open and eye's peeled and imagine your taking a photo of everything, even when you don't have your camera, that's when I seem to find the most inspiring idea's for art work :D

Yeah, it's happened to me, too, that I got a really good idea while I was just about to fall asleep, and then it keeps you awake all night :D
I never really walked around and took pictures of everything, but actually I've got something like that planned :) It's for my macro blog - I'm beginning to run out of things to photograph at home ;)
Thank you very much for sharing, I like what you say about keeping one's mind open
