In photography many people work in B&W but I want to know how differnt people turn their photos into B&W. And whats the best method? Converting to B&W, working with Gradient Map, shooting in B&W? What?
I think it's wiser to shoot in color and THEN convert to black and white in Adobe Photoshop (or something). Then you can tweak levels, contrast, brightness, etc...
I created my own method from a cocktail of different methods that i found. Just search for tutorials and then mix your favourites together or something.
I don't like to limit my options, so I always shoot in color, even if the intention is to convert to black and white. I may end up loading it into Photoshop and deciding that the photo would be better if it was in color.
For what it is worth - I've been very pleased converting to b/w in photoshop. In older versions I used channel mixer, but in the newer version the b/w converter works well (not to be confused with desaturate, which doesn't work particularly well...).
