Camera Bags- Need Some Suggestions from Fellow Photographers!

Hello everyone!

Need a bit of help with camera bags. Basically, my dilemma is that the camera case I am currently using isn't adequate anymore, as well as the fact that I have had it for many years and it's ripping at the seams, and I need some suggestions!

I have a Canon 7D, and carry my 70-200mm and 16-35mm at all times. I have other lenses, but I seldom use them for jobs, the two lenses listed above are the ones I need continuously.

The case I am currently using is the Canon slinger camera bag that came with my Rebel XSi (hence why it is so old, haha).

Basically, it's really bulky and incredibly inconvenient to carry with me :( I'm looking for a case that is more like a backpack- less bulky and easier to pull equipment out of. I would prefer that it can hold my camera with the 70-200mm lens attached.

I'm not really concerned with the price at the moment, what I want to know is personal experiences with bags and recommendations :)

Thank you so much!

I've a lowepro reporter, i love it! Much better than a back-pack style bag, as i can always grab stuff out of it without taking it off my shoulder!

I use my school bag which is suprisingly comfortable to use. The camera is in a neoprene case and the lenses have their cases too.

A camera bag is a personal choice. You shouldn't really go by the preferences of others, because that's what suits THEM. Sure, if someone tells you a particular bag is poorly made, it's worth taking into consideration, but you really need to think about what you want it for, what you don't want, what size you want, and whether it's going to need to hold more gear in the not-too-distant future.

Taking a look in a decent camera shop is worthwhile, as you can see what's what, and what feels right for you. Not only that, but the staff will hopefully be knowledgeable and unbiased enough to recommend something based on your requirements.

That said, there are some companies that just make camera bags, for all sorts of situations, with good websites (e.g. Lowepro) that are organized nicely and give you a good idea of what you may want.

And if you really want a personal opinion, I use a Lowepro Slingshot because it's perfect for me. It has a good, sturdy strap, is out of the way when you don't need it but on hand at a moment's notice. For weddings, we have a massive Lowepro shoulder bag, which is great for holding lots of stuff, but makes it REALLY heavy. I've also used a smaller Nikon shoulder bag. It's nice, but it only really has enough room for a camera with a small lens, a flashgun and one extra lens. Plus the soft velcro walls are a bit flimsy and tend to warp. Even though it's a small bag with a limited amount of space, it gets really heavy when you're carrying a camera and a couple of lenses around for long periods of time (it has a strap like a camera strap with a pretty flimsy shoulder protector that slides up the strap) - something you need to bear in mind if considering a shoulder bag.

As for my bag, the Lowepro video gives a good idea of how it works: [link]

I use a Kata 3n1-30. Super comfortable, holds a very good amount of gear, and cam be readjusted tp slig over left shoulder, right shoulder, or both as a backpack. Lots of great pouches for all kinds of stuff.

Thank you! I like the fact that it can be so adjustable, that's wonderful :)
