Inspiration and Ideas

Hi guys, well I'm off for the summer now till mid september when I start university.
Since I've finished photography, I've been a bit idea-less. I have no good ideas and no inspiration for photo shoots! So just wondering, if anyone could give me some good ideas or photographers that could inspire me this summer! I live in the UK so weather's not great haha. But I can't travel far (don't drive so I rely on buses), I don't have a studio or lighting (just me and my camera and flash gun). So yeah, I'm a bit limited with travel, money and equipment... :/
HELP, a desperate bored 18/19 yr old girl!!! Cheers

Most people don't tend to see the beauty in the place that they live in because they are so used to it. Say I went to the UK - i'm sure I would find many awesome places to use as inspiration and to take pictures. While you as a resident probably would not see the beauty because you have lived there for so long.
I say crab your camera and walk the streets. Try nature photos for a change instead of inside your studio. It can be a sunny day or a rainy day. You can use the rain to your advantage and use it for reflections, while for the sun i'm sure you can take some beautiful landscape photos or maybe some photos of people walking around. You never know what you can find if you just step back and look again through new eyes.

Lately I've been doing some detailed shots of random objects and tried to present them as something else. For example: a train wagon as filmstrip, random objects as extraterrestrial objects, etc.

It really depends what you want to present with photography.

- Do you want to show life as it is - reality shots or create more art shots, conceptual art, abstract perhaps?

- Do you like shooting more nature or shooting man made objects (architecture, transportation).

- Film or digital? The post production is totally different experience although you manage same things but in different environment.

Some questions that if you answer can already help you get some ideas.

About moving around while doing photography - I mostly move by bus or train too - which is in a way better since instead of looking on the street I can look around and the surroundings better already down the road.

I think it depends on why you are taking photos. But let's say it's for the sake of artistic expression, as vague as that can be, but let's go with that (it's generally how I'd describe myself so hoping that fits for you).

In that case I'd start with what you want to express. Concepts or ideas. Start maybe with a word. "Loyalty" I want to do a photo series on loyalty. Then do a mind map ... you know where you start with the idea in the bubble in the center and draw lines to other bubbles with related ideas. That could spark some interesting off shoots to the original idea. Then just keep it gestating in your head. Live your life, read your books, hang out with your friends, snuggle with your cat, and think about loyalty and related ideas all the while.

When you shoot and edit the pictures, do so in a way that they stylistically fit into a common visual theme.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

well most of my ideas are set off because of topics set by my teacher :) he use to say do a project on Landscapes, so then I'd go through several ways to interpret the topic, and so on. But sometimes, I just take photos while out and about, or by looking at some of the amazing work on here! or Flickr :)

Do some street photography.

Build your own home studio, and use your flashgun as the light source, there's many great things you can shoot inside the house with just one flashgun and a camera.
