How did you start writing?

Interested to see people's stories on how they started writing as my first simple thread in this forum. If I find some good stories on how you started out I'll do a Journal highlighting the cool stories to share.

I guess for me it was back in 1995 and I used to user Lego as a stage show to act out the stories I wanted to make. Sadly I never actually most of the "LegoLand" series that I did but it was the start of a long time of writing. My teachers saw I had a habit of writing very long stories and for great adventure tales. I lived in unit with my mother by myself so I guess I started to imagine of the outside world and created my own.

Well that's story and you ask me any question if you like so what's your story?

I became enamored by tales of dragons and magic and decided I wanted to create one of my own.

I remember I started writing a while before I came to DeviantArt. I had this notebook and it was filled with a couple of stories from my young imagination. After going from two other notebooks I discovered DeviantArt one day while looking for Pokemon. I remember submitting my first piece of Literature to DeviantArt. It was bad, you wouldn't believe all of the mistakes It had. I deleted it some time later and grew so much from my failed attempts. I have some remaining stories of my old work on file and I will never forget them.

I used to "write" stories about pirate cats before I entered kindergarten, but they were mere scribbles, so I don't think that technically counts. ;)

Once I learned how to write, however, I used a lot of manilla paper in elementary school writing about cats, ghosts, and their stupid adventures. :D I vaguely remember writing a story about Ren and Stimpy when I was in second grade, though for some reason, Ren lived in a nest. I don't know what that was about. :B

I started writing when I was 11/12 as a way of dealing with a lot of stress I was going through and coping. It wasn't really stories and such then but it was just scribbling of anything that came to mind from reality, to dreams, to anything... it didn't make sense once I was done, what with the doodles and scribbles and words... you see the point?
As I got older I realized I liked creating stories and "lives" just because I could imagine ANYTHING I wanted. In space, in the ocean, whatever it interested me and I found myself doing research to learn about these things.
I also liked to write (in an actual form you could actually articulate a meaning from at least somewhat) to get my feelings out or share something.
I still like to though I haven't in a long time.

Well, my very first, actual story was mostly in my head, it wasn't until later that I wrote it down. It was a couple of years ago, seven I believe, and I went to see a film in the cinema. There was this guy in it, and I think that was my first crush on a movie star, though very short living. Anyways, that's how I started thinking up this story of what it would be like if an ordinary girl would meet a movie star in real life.
The one I first wrote down was five years ago. I went to a new school - the same one as my little sister - and heard about the moving from the school to a new location (though a building is yet to be erected, even though it's been 8 years since my sister first started at that school, when the plans for the big move were first unfolded). That's how I concocted a story about a curse on that piece of ground where the school would be newly situated, put upon by a girl sentenced to death there.

I started in preschool doing little construction paper story books, but my first official stories started in early elementary school. Basically before I could really write, I was writing stories, so I guess I was born with it.

My story starts out like any other angst-indulged teenager who found out that social dissension was an avenue to be himself. My father left my family and with that I sprung forth coping with life by writing poems. Years passed and I continued the habit of being emotive and not skillful in the name of, "finding myself" - easy to say, it reaped little fruit. While being homeless a majority of this time, I found a better reason to write, for others. Nowadays, I use writing as a way to view my opinions (respectfully) and comment constructively upon the structure we have as a world. I pay attention to skill and word use, mainly and with that tell tales of subjects meaningful to me.

That is an outline of why I write.

I began my writing days when I was ten. Strangely enough, my first piece was an erotic fanfiction for Bleach. That right there is the reason why I say... without pornography, I most likely never would have been a writer.

I hated writing when I was younger, but I have always been an insatiable bookworm and have always enjoyed making up stories. I was about twelve when it all overflowed and I realized that not only was writing fun, but I could actually do it. I've been writing ever since.

Well, I was always writing even as a little kid, but I wasn't serious about it, it was just something I did for fun. I even made a little picture book called 'The Bird Who Couldn't Fly," (it was about a little bird that was too scared to fly, but then one day it was in danger and had to fly, and it found out it could. Original, huh? XD) and I even drew pictures and colored it with sparkly pens. I don't know where it is now though. ^^;

Then when I got older - like 12 or 13, my friends would read what I had written, and they really liked it. They would get really immersed in them, and obviously I liked that. ^^ And I guess I kind of decided I wanted to write seriously, and write really good stories that would make people happy. ^^ Obviously I'm still learning, but I think one day I'll manage it. :D

Writing? I didn't start that until I was maybe 12, but I always came up with stories. I would spend a lot of time playing as a little girl with Littlest Pet Shop, My Little Pony, Barbie, and G.I. JOE guys, and I'd make them all have a nice little story, which I would spend days to weeks on. (For example, the spotted dog had a crush on the brown dog, and asked his hamster friend to go talk to her for him, the friend came back and now HE had a crush on the brown dog... It was silly, cliche stuff like that)

Then when I was around 12 or 13 I got into the dreaded Sonic fandom, and started roleplaying online with the couples that I liked. After that, I started writing (god awful) fan fiction. And those horrible stories and one-liner roleplays evolved into decent writing. :meow:

I started writing as soon as I learned how. My first stories were about a teddy bear princess who was secretly a super hero. I drew pictures to go with the stories. This was in really early gradeschool.

Later, from 3rd grade - 5th grade I wrote some stories about a girl from Texas who grew up on a horse ranch. She somehow ends up in a world similar to Ancient Greece in Xena (I used to skip school just to watch that show). Something happened in the middle of 5th grade though and it made me hate writing, and I stopped. I don't remember what it was, just that it had something to do with me turning in my story to the teacher.

In sixth grade I refused to do the writing assignments because of all the bad feelings it brought up. Towards the end of sixth grade, my teacher told me that for the next assignment I didn't need to follow the prompt, he just needed me to produce something. I wrote a horror story about a brother and sister who explore a "witch's house" in the woods. The teacher was really impressed by my story, and encouraged me so much that I've been writing on a regular basis ever since.

Writing is in my family. Mother, uncle, brother - all writers in their own right.

But I started the same way I think many people start writing. Primary school english. Writing stories was what we did. I was never much good at it but I loved it. Sadly we never did enough of it to keep me happy so I started doing it on my own, outside school. I guess I never stopped. I consider my first "real story" to be something I wrote when I was eight. I wrote it on an Apple Mac Classic II computer. It was partially collaborative with a friend of mine.

I was so proud of it, I decided then and there that I would be an author when I grow up.

I always got told I was good at writing in infant school :meow: but I never really thought seriously about writing a book... then once I read this book - I can't remember what it was called now - but there was a girl in it who played imaginary adventures with her imaginary self. I liked it and wrote a story about a similar thing (I was so yooooung :XD:). Anyway, I started there and now I've been writing for years. :D

Well . . . when I was a kid I always used to tell stories, then in middle school I started to write a few down. At first it wasn't stories, just . . . planning about the monsters I drew, kind of like a monster booklet. Then in High School I took a creative writing class and actually started to create short stories. Only recently , within the last two years, have I actually started to actively write.

The classic fantasy tales are where the ideas for Harry Potter and the modern tales come from. For example The Lord of the Rings is a huge blueprint for how fantasy can be done and has been so for decades.

It all started when I started actually learning things in school. I would write reports on different animals and such for fun. It was mostly nonfiction, but as I grew older, it turned into fantasy stories. Then...well...I'm not sure how I got to what I do now.
