Who inspires you?

I'm curious about you. Yes you. I want to know about you. Specifically, I want to know what people inspire you?

I don't mean in the sense of writing inspirations or who seems to fill your head with ideas of what to write. I want to know what people, well known or unknown, that inspire you to write, and to keep going in life. Who do you look up to? Who gives you a confidence pick-me-up when you need it the most? Who motivates you?

If anybody at all. But I expect everybody has at least one person who has been an inspiration for your life.

I personally have a few people who inspire you. They're not necessarily writers, but they're people who have chosen a craft and devoted their lives to it and become great at it. But I already know who is an inspiration to me. I'm far more interested in who makes you want to do and be better,

A lot of poets and writers inspire me like Robert Frost, Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Dickens. Their writings have inspired me to become better and to think of things others have not yet and to use everyday emotions and events as the craft to weave my writing. But though these accomplished and well-known writers have given me a lot to think about and inspired me in a lot of ways, the people who truly inspire me to keep writing and to keep on going are the people I've met in this downtrodden life of mine. My best friend, who introduced me to the world of art is perhaps the greatest inspiration I have.

The most powerful inspiration I have received has been from my friends. Whether it is something they do that unlocks something I can't get past, or a passing comment that sparks an idea I can't get rid of they always seem to help me out, even if they don't know it. Some of my best stuff has come from conversations with my friends.

I think that inspiration comes from a collective rather than a singular entity. Personally my main inspiration comes from french poet Charles Baudelaire as he writes with what i believe is one side of human truth and vision without sugar coating it. He's brutally honest. But I also think that I wouldn't feel the way that I do about his work if I hadn't emotionally grown through listening to modern day musicians who speak their own truths.

Anyone who has a voice that shouts loud enough can inspire you.

Reading writing by those already published, whose books I really enjoy - for example, Suzanne Collins - aspires me to do better. My friends and people on dA who read my work make me believe I can. Often I have to look to myself for support, to see if I'm doing the right thing, and come back shrugging. Knowing people are behind you always makes things that little bit easier.

The punks. :D I don't like punk music, but I really love their attitude of 'screw the old way, this is how we do it.' and how they couldn't sing, they could barely play their instruments, but they did it anyway. And didn't give a damn.

I also find people on DA who are constantly trying to improve inspiring. It's like healthy competition when you see them getting better, you want to practice more too so you don't get left behind. ;P

Michael Crichton.

Granted his work isn't that fantastic, he managed to juggle med school and writing, something I found to be very impressive. When I was in med school I had to drop everything, everything, every hobby, every interest, just to pass. No way could I have written anything and studied that much at the same time.

I find the writer David Wong as a bit of an inspiration, as he used to be just a random data entry clerk. He posted an ongoing comedy/horror series called "John Dies at the End" online in the early to mid 2000s, and his work got such a large following that he got a publishing deal. To make things even better, horror movie director Don Coscarelli (The guy who made the Phantasm movies and Bubba Ho-Tep) liked the book and began making a movie based on it. It opened at Sundance 2012 to positive reviews.

I'm also inspired by other people who went from random schmucks to well-known storytellers. Quentin Tarantino went from a guy working at a video rental store to a respected director (he made Pulp Fiction for chrissakes!). Kevin Smith was just a convenience stor clerk who bankrupted himself to make a movie called "Clerks", and became one of the big comedy directors of the '90s.

So...yeah, I'm basically inspired by average people who managed to write (and/or direct) something great enough to propel them into the spotlight.
