Why did you start writing?

When and why did you start writing? I started to write poetry when a friend who I used to be close with walked out of my life in between 8th grade and freshmen year. It was just a way for me to start letting my emotions out.

I used to be quite a lonely kid, with far too much imagination. So i started writing. It was a good creative outlet, and it took a lot of my social awkwardness away, being able to just create the worlds that were otherwise stuck inside my head. Never really finished a project, though.
Now I've decided to start a story, and try to finish it. It will be the first time I actually make my work public, so I have nooo idea if it is any good :P

I've been writing for longer than I can remember. When I was very little, I started writing lots of stories that I generally didn't finish.

I think I may actually have stopped for a little while. Then things went downhill because of my secondary school and I started writing a novel. It still wasn't very good, but that was probably the point I started writing seriously: it gave me a distraction from the drudgery of real life. While that was little more than escapism, I finished the story and went on to do another and another. None of them were great, but they were getting better. After I left school and my life improved, I kept at it. I found opportunities to actually use my writing and there were other people who took an interest in it. Since then, I've always been telling stories and always trying to improve.

:iconmerrak:'s story sounds awfully familiar to me in some ways. :-)

I don't know when and why I started, I just know I love it. I like the creative outlet, being able to have so much freedom in what you do. I practiced (And still practice) will doing a one on one roleplay with my friend over email. We've had one story that has gone on for almost 2 years, I love my characters to death, and I really would like to re-write it as a novel and get published.

I guess it kind of started as a hobby, but I'd love to make a profession out of it, but I'm not so sure. I still have four years until collage to figure out my path in life. I just enjoy writing and reading because I can get out of the real world and go to some amazing land.

I started when I wanted to actually do something with my day-dreaming.

There was always something in me that wanted to write and illustrate a story. Ever since I was ten I began creating my own original characters and writing their stories. When I was 12 I created a set of original characters that still exist today. their story since then has changed significantly but yeah you get the picture :P

I started writing when I needed another creative outlet when I wasn't in a mood to draw but still wanted to do something creative.

I started writing "seriously" (as in trying to actually complete my projects) in the first year of my doctorate mathematics studies. The first year of any doctoral program usually involves a series of comprehensive, difficult, and high-stakes exams called "qualifying exams". The basic gist of them is you either pass and can go on, or fail and are terminated from the program (expelled). No pressure, right?

I found writing to be a great way to use the other side of my brain, which greatly contributed to my sanity during the studying process. Once I was done, I felt like I gave my characters lives and should finish their stories. Here I am still working on them!

I think I truly got into writing in the sixth grade. It started off as just a way for me to write funny stories that involved my favorite characters from Naruto. It went from that to now I'm in my senior year of high school and want to make a career out of it somehow. :)

Only now I mess around with Death Note characters instead of Naruto! XDDD

I started writing when I was in 6th grade, but I never thought of actually taking it as an profession (which I hope I shall) I liked using my imagination writing stories and characters along with reading books that inspired me to write.

Although when I actually got into writing was going through fan-fiction, which I'm quite a bit ashamed to claim, but it helped me see my way through with original stories. :)
