How to make a fake head?

Hello everyone!
I have to make a severed head for a theater performance.
It's supposed to look like one of my friends' head, and I know this will require a casting of her head.

But I don't know which material to use. The head will be thrown on the ground a couple of times, so it's not supposed to break!

When I have made a casting of gypsum, which material should I then fill the casting with?
Would latex or foam be right?

I've only made a head casting with plaster, which would be far too fragile. I would think between foam and latex, latex would be best.
