What inspires you?

I'm not in a slump or anything, but I am really curious what inspires other artists to work.

For me, going to the art store makes me really want to draw because of all of the materials, and I think about how I could use them. I also get inspired by reading, because it makes me think, and want to project my thoughts.

What inspires you to draw? :)

Browsing dA's front page all day and going on a long cycle through Richmond park (London).

Everything around me. Random events in my life can spark ideas. Looking at the work of other artists can also help as well.

I do not draw. I write. What inspires me to write? Movies.

Emotions. "What if..?" questions. Strange imaginary worlds. Mythologies and legends. Metaphysical concepts.
But also, you know, the everyday stuff. Interesting looking trees and rocks. Strange houses. Details around my apartment. People I meet.

Quite right and well said!

As far as my inspiration is concerned, first of all my friend's painting inspired me a lot.

And then ofcourse visiting art stores also act as a motivation for some (including me).

Nothing better than the smell of new art supplies! Music is a big factor on keeping me motivated to draw also but I'd say the most inspiration is looking at great contemporary artists and studying off of their work. I really look at their techniques and I try to imitate it in my next piece. For example I would look at the way they shade and see how they make that piece of art what it is.

That's a really great technique! For me I usually just concentrate more-so on my own art and areas of that I can improve on, but I can definitely see how studying other artists can be helpful!

Looking at really good artwork - I instantly get jealous and try to be better than the artist who did it.
(Yes, I'm terrible... )

sounds generic, but music inspires me. I have different bands I listen to when I want to draw certain characters of mine, and generally when I'm not listening to anything, I don't have much inspiration to draw.

I used to be the exact opposite and couldn't draw if there was any music playing. Weird how that switched around.

I feel both ways sometimes to. Music inspires me, but I need quiet to concentrate lol
