Decorating sketchbook?

:iconhelija:

As I have started new project, I started new sketchbook. It means blank new space to have fresh new start. I always felt a bit troubled decorating my sketchbooks. If you ever studied art you might understand need to fill in blankness for coursework and desire to make it look good.

Part I find most troubling is backgrounds and covers. I was wondering ,if anyone has some tips, tricks or ideas. Maybe even some no-nos from experience.
Feel free to share, thank you!

I created a design where it's cute chibbi drawings and song lyrics from my favorite songs in all different colors so its like a collage(:

I'd rather just draw in my sketchbook than worry about decorating it.

There's a problem if your instructors care more about decorations than they do about the content of the sketchbooks.

No, it is equally important(recording your work and understanding). Though decorating it is my own choice c:

I like to look up other artists' journals on google because of how interestingly decorated they are. :) It might give you some ideas.

Gel pens are always fun. They work awesome on plain paper and even black.

I think they mean inside the sketchbook? I don't really have much trouble with this....When I don't know what to draw, I gesture, and when I have an idea, I draw it out!

There is a tad difference between personal and coursework sketchbook. Coursework one must hace research and experiments and most pieces annotated and explained. Therefore you have to play up typography and backgrounds.

I'm a bit confused too, if you mean you're looking for inspiration to decorate your sketchbook, I dunno what to tell you. I can tell you that I use these sketchbooks from Barnes and Noble that have a "recycled" cover that you can just draw right onto. I prefer to decorate it with ink drawings. This is what I'm talking about.

Oh, I see. What I am talking about is coursework sketchbook (it has lots of text, like research and annotations). The way we fill those sketchbooks is differs = it's kind of like presentation. ( GCSE, BTEC, A-level courses has this).

I just asked how people decorate sketchbooks of their own. :dummy:

Do you mean decorating the front cover of the sketchbook?

I've seen people stick magazine cutouts on it, or use a white permanent marker to draw on it.

Mine is covered in My Little Pony, Disney Princess, Hello Kitty and Pokemon stickers, but that's not for everyone. :U

I actually meant cover (yes, the front) and pages inside. Let's say you have A3 sketchbook with research and experiments, sometimes you want some variety in backgrounds. Makes sense?

Well, sounds like awesome sketchbook c:

It should! I personally draw something on front out of my projects for coursework stuff and just draw something nice for personal ones ^^
