If you suggest a DD and the CV gives you feedback on the piece, should you tell to the artist?

Sometimes when I suggest a piece to a CV (Community Volunteer) to be featured as a DD (Daily Deviation), the CV will respond with a specific reason why they chose not to feature the piece. Sometimes the piece has a cool concept but has low technical quality, or sometimes it's very well done but it's too simple or not unique enough. My question is, should I pass that information on to the artist in question? I currently don't, partially because it was a private conversation between myself and the CV, and partially because I'm not really sure if the artist is open to that kind of critique. But then I think - if it were my piece being suggested and the CV had a specific reason for not featuring it, I would want to know, right? What do you guys think?

(For those who have no idea what I'm talking about - FAQ #18: Who selects the Daily Deviation and how is it chosen?)

(Also sorry if there is a better forum to post this in :ohnoes:)

Really, I don't see how they (CV/Community Volunteers) are qualified to say how good, or how technically well made a piece of art is.

I can say I'm fully qualified in the art of chocolate biscuit eating, it doesn't make it true. :giggle: I am though, you'll have to trust me on that. ;P

No

Because if it wasn't MY idea to submit the artwork for a DD, why should I be interested in why it failed to meet the standard for that? It wasn't something I was trying to acheive. As someone said above, it's not necessarily an objective art critique, so I don't necessarily care what they have to say.

The feedback is for you, so that you learn to suggest more appropriate works.

I should probably have mentioned that some of these people did actually ask me to suggest their works, so I know they're interested in receiving a DD (and therefore might benefit more from the feedback than others). But on the other hand, a lot of CVs accept (or even encourage) self-suggestions and would probably be willing to give direct feedback if requested, which would all around be less complicated (and less likely to produce drama).

Oh well sure, if they asked you then that makes sense.

You can just note them saying, "Hey, i suggested your piece to DD, but they turned it down, and I was wondering if you wanted me to forward the response?" Every artist is unique, not everyone want to know, but everyone deserves the chance to know.

Some people are sensitive to criticism, even if it's constructive (they're posting publicly on a website, go figure?). I personally would want to know, it may help me understand just what it takes to get a DD, which surely for some people it's their bread and butter.

Aside from that it almost always comes down to the opinion of the CV, if they don't like it for whatever reason they might not want to have their personal preference known public, looks bad in the community.

If the CV is ok with you sharing the reason (most important), perhaps simply note the artist in question, tell them you recommended them for a DD, and then ask if they want the crit?

I think that being a go-between between two people who didn't ask for it explicitly is a recipe for disaster. If the CV wanted to communicate with the artist, well, they know where to find 'em.

Very true. And the artist can request it themselves from the CV if they want to.
