Any Academy of Art University: Opinions, thoughts and experiences?

I have been researching a lot about the Academy of Art University and I've been getting a ton of mixed reviews. (I am unsure of whether or not I want to apply)

I'd love to hear from people who have actually attended or have graduated from the AoAU. Or from people who know people XD
Really, anything helps.

-What are your thoughts on the AoAU
-Do you think that your time in AoAU help prepare you for a
professional environment?
-How did you manage to survive AoAU? Any tips?

Also, rants are not helpful and do not provide acurate information. (Just in case anyone was getting ready to completely go crazy ;) )
I have already read plenty of stories about the cost, the accepting all applicants policy and the terrible administration offices, so you don't need to worry about talking about that =)

They have an extraordinarily poor reputation and are a for profit set of colleges, meaning they charge a great deal more than a state or even most private universities, accept money from everyone, and churn out graduates, whether they learn or not.

I know that they are for profit, but they are less expensive than private universities or even state universities.
The average total price (including tuition, room, board, books, and fees) per semester for public colleges is $22,300.
The average total price per semester for private colleges is $43,500.
The AoAU is only $20,823.

And learning is mostly up to the student. The teacher can take us to the water but can't force us to drink it. And some people may say the teachers are bad, but from every (non ranting) review I got of an actual graduate or student they ususally say that the teachers are very knowledgable. BUT I understand completely that not all teachers work out with every student.
But I thank you for your help! I think I am going to double check about their reputation...

I think it really depends upon what teacher you get - they're going to be all over the map.

Well, working hard is part of the world of art. So stretching yourself a bit to understand a teacher better doesn't phase me.
Thanks for your help!

I have to say its is really mix too.

A few of my BAAU mates already attend there. I don't know thier current status at all, and they seem to take what they learn well. I heard, getting in is easy; but staying is hard, because there is alot of work to do.

Nokari should show up eventually, because he attends that school. Not a friend, but he has come up several times when an Academy of art forums is floating about.

Lol, I'll look out for him.
And I have heard the same thing. But I think that's good because it weeds out those who aren't ready for the art world.

I heard that saying directly from Chuck Pyle, the head of the illustration dept. He is a nice guy and he sounds pretty hilarious.

My teacher, Jane Fisher has taught there, but her memory is out of date for me to know anything about going there.

Is this the one on San Francisco? If so, uh, I would steer clear for the next few years. They've been loaded with a ton of fraud charges. Do a google search, it's been in the news quite a bit lately.

Are you sure about that? I've never heard anything about them being involved in fraud, are you sure that you aren't thinking about the Art Institute? I know they have been accused of fraud, but I don't know any details.

Nope, it's the Academy of Art. Haven't heard of the Art Institute, but I have heard that there's been a couple for-profit colleges that've been getting accused lately. They must all be owned by the same company or something.
