I got some good critiques on a piece I just uploaded, so I worked on it some more and it's greatly improved. However the old version I just uploaded already has 59 favs, 647 someodd views, and is in 17 groups. Should I upload the improved version as a new deviation, or should I just upload it over the old version?
I'd upload it as an edit. If you want to keep the original version so people can still follow the critiques you got before the change, you can always upload that to photobucket and link it in your artist's description.
I don't do it often, but when I did I just replaced the old image with a new and wrote in the description [EDIT -date-] and explained what I've changed.
If it's a minor edit (like colors or a misreferenced tiny but important detail) I'd just edit it and explain it with a note in the artists comments. That's just me though.
I know your situation. Personally, I prefer to just upload the newer image as an edit, so that I don't lose the views, favs, comments and groups. Unless I completely redo a piece or change it drastically, I always just update it as an edit.
Yeah, I know what you're saying. I have a lot of piece in my gallery that I've fixed up and I still haven't re-edited the images, even though they're years old. While other pieces I upload right away when i fix them. Win some, lose some
