2) Apologies if this has been answered before - I haven't been able to find a specific query pertaining to this or even on google
Here we go:
Q: Is there any lossless image format for images other than Tif?
Why?
I import DNGs off my camera through Lightroom
The DNGs even if slightly edited & flattened in Photoshop are saved as Tifs (Either uncompressed or Zip)
An 'original' DNG file might be around 28mb. (Canon 5D M3 Camera).
The slightly edited (removal of a few blotches etc) Tif is 129 MB!!!! The ZIP Tif is 120 MB (whoopee...
This seems like an utter waste of memory for tiny edits. Mutliply this into 100's of wedding photos and it gets a bit problematic even though I'm using dual SATA 3 2TB drives. I totally understand that images with layers etc are going to be huge and I've dealt with large (1GB+) files before - BUT - isn't anyone using a format which is A) Lossless B) Smaller than a tif C) Larger than a DNG or Camera RAW/NEF file proportionate to the edit? Or is what I'm asking for simply not possible?
Thank you for taking the time to read this - I hope it doesn't sound too boneheaded!
