I've noticed over the past few weeks that watercolors are always on the frontpage and are becoming more frequent, even for artists that don't normally use watercolors in their art.
They all look lovely, and I do think it'd be interesting to take it up as a form of art.
watercolor is the most practical form of painting for most people it is economical and yields a whimsy or heavy approach. While it is a very tricky medium to master it can be very rewarding. I personally prefer oil paint but what ya gonna do. A few tips would be to soak the paper thoroughly before painting then stretch it on a piece of plywood so the paper dose not bubble up. Also keep the area your working moist but not wet so the colors transfer smoother. Dark lines and definition are the last to do. Work in washes to create the depth of color so you don't loose your lights and mid tones. If you are interested order some India ink ( i recommend Bombay brand black about $3) and a few jars or baby food jars. and make an array of washes out of them. This will let you get a feel for the media and how to control the depth of pigment in a wash before you go to the more expensive paints.
I am glad to hear that when i get my scanner working again ill upload an ink sketch and let you see what i ment. btw go check my stuff out and comment if you like
I've noticed that paintings have become popular generally (not just watercolour). Apparently paint is the way to go these days. (How inconvenient for me, as I'm not fond of using paint ... I like the effects of paint and all but I'm so bad at it. I'll stick with digital painting, it's cleaner and somewhat easier for me. )
Could be, I recently started using watercolor as well and I was inspired to try by the art that gets featured on the front page and DDs. I haven't paid attention to watercolors before because I didn't like the medium (I didn't understand how it works so I thought I was bad at it), no idea if your observation is correct or I just have a bias so I didn't notice them.

Anyone else noticing this or is it just me?
