Ink on clothing (I want it!)

So the last two days I have been drawing a custom drawing for myself on a white cotton shirt. I set the inked shirt out to dry and will soon put it thru the washing machine. But apon inspection the ink smudges a little when I run a little under the tap. If I brush my fingers on the inky smudge the smudge goes away. The ink is Noodler's Ink: Heart of Darkness (it says waterproof, but idk..) I've made tye-dye once before. Is shirt inking a little like that? (the drying stage, then soaking, then more drying, then washing)
So, quick question: Is it safe (for my custom shirt's sake) to go thru the washing machine, or will this be a sad messy life lesson?

Yeah, fountain pen ink isn't going to work. It may survive the initial wash, but it will be nothing compared to if you had used dye or fabric ink.

Give it a shot, and just get some appropriate stuff if you don't like how it turned out. :)

Ok. Well, perhaps next time I can try out with fabric inks.

But check on a spare piece first! (for the washing and the ironing)

Have you ironed it? I know some fabric inks require heat, in order to bond to the fabric.

Would you say normal inks work this way too?
I guess it's worth a shot.

I have absolutely no idea XD best to put some paper between the iron and your test fabric, turn the steam off, and try it out. Fabric inks are thicker, as they'll have a bonding agent in them that makes them 'stick'. . . but like you said, it's worth a shot :)

I would BET. And use words correctly, too.

You can get ink (well, paint) specifically designed for fabric.
If it were me, I would be that your design will not last a trip through the washing machine. But.. well, I guess there's one way to find out. Just don't wash it with your white t-shirt and sock collection.

Indeed. Curious to see what is going to happen.
