I'm a bit frustrated. I recently got watercolours and I really like working with them. But one thing I didn't know is that they loose their shine/gloss when dry. So to make it up a bit I had to do more layers. That kind of confuses me since watercolours are supposed to show a bit paper? Or is it ok to work with many layers, more like acrylics? They are very thin in their coverege. But now I have to put on a lot of layers to give them depth/colour. Am I doing something wrong? And is it something more I should know about watercolours
Just slap the paint down and make it really bright and saturated and happy. And don't forget to use the itty bitty brushes because watercolor is really easy for detailing.
But yes, they are supposed to be somewhat transparent, but don't let them completely fade away. I see so many sad, pale, soul-less watercolor paintings and they make me sad...
Yes, you can add multiple layers of colour while working with watercolours, and the fact that they don't stay as glossy as they look when wet is completely normal (although it may depend on the kind of colours/paper you're using). I'd suggest you to visit a group like for tutorials, tips and the like. Good luck! Don't give up on watercolours, they're a beautiful medium!
