Do you work with colorpencils? Have you ever done it (who didn´t, anyway?)? Do you still work with it sometimes (if this traditional medium is not the one of your choice)? What´s your favourite brand? What do you like most about them?
As of me, it´s no secret I´m fanatic for Faber-Castell. However, I wouldn´t achieve the current results in my art without the complement of Uni Mitsubishi colorpencils, which I´ve been using for about 4 years by now they´re not very popular here in this part of the world (they´re japanese) but they´re amazing, and for me comparable to Faber-Castell Polychromos. I´ve also been broadening my horizons lately and I´m stating to work with Koh-I-Noor Mondeluz, Caran D´Ache Supracolor Soft II, and I can´t wait to have a chance to try Prismacolor Premier.
PS: I´ve always prefered traditional pencils instead water soluble ones... but I love even more having both.
That being said though, when I moved and had to choose which pencils to take with me, I took prisma. I never use them as a base but overlaying on top of Faber Castell with them is amazing because they blend so well Faber Castell are really vibrant and fun though, and I always love blending with them.
I've used color pencils ever since I was a kid and for some reason, digital just hasn't clicked with me like traditional art has. Being able to feel the textures that I'm working with is an amazing feeling.. even more amazing than conjuring textures up digitally. I feel more accomplished, like I didn't need to use any tricks to make the final product what it is.
And.. I've never heard of Uni Mitsubish, but I will most certainly look for them in the art stores next time
I absolutely love color pencils, but I also have absolutely no idea which brands are which. All my pencil I got for birthdays or the like. So I just draw. XD
I used to use normal color pencils all he time, and while I still use polychrome a it, After I started using Inktense (Derwent water soluables), they're pretty much all I use, a,on wih Watercolours. Utterly brilliant - They come out with a vibrancy even once they've dried, it's great!
I always liked polychromos because they blended really well. I used to have a bunch of prismacolors and they were really great when I was starting out. Prismacolors are really waxy. I found out that if you want to do the watercolor + rubbing alcohol effects with colored pencil, prismacolors work best because they are waxy. You can color something, and do the effect on top and it won't smudge up or screw up anything.
I rarely have a piece that I drew with all colored pencil though. It's always a mixture of things.
I tend to not be good with pencil media. I am best with paints and things that blend better insted of having that liney sketchy quality.. Sorry I cant be of any help.
I'm a mercenary (meaning I'll use whatever gets the job done), & I'm a little obsessive when it comes to buying art supplies- & the internet makes it so damn easy...
...I have all kinds of color pencils. Prismacolor, which I began with & which are still my go-to brand. Derwent drawing- weird earthy colors & very creamy, Luminance (Caran D' Ache [sp?]), also really rich, & really expensive, Tombo- which I have but haven't really used yet (oddly bright colors), & Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor, which are rich & oil based & I like them a lot. I find myself sort of leaning away from some of the other brands (Faber Castell, Derwent Studio)- I guess because I find the leads harder & more difficult to blend...
