Being Inspired.

This topic is about inspiration, and I wanted to know if anyone else felt the same way.

I'm an erotic artist. I draw erotic art and it's just what I like to do naturally. I like drawing the body and making people happy with my art. I also like drawing erotic art to amuse myself and get better at drawing human form.

But when it comes to other things, I'm not really inspired much to create general things that people want to see. I'm not inspired to make fan art by the ten fold. Some people churn out art so quickly it makes me feel like I'm not doing enough or I'm lazy.
I want to put my best quality into my art when I do make it.

But since erotic art and DA don't necessarily mix that well, and I don't feel like making what people want to see, I post rarely and get little feedback. There are other websites that do support what I create, but it hardly feels like a community.

I'm not asking any questions, but I do feel kind of stuck.

I agree with the post :iconkizziesama: wrote, don't feel as thought you're stuck because you can't post it on DA. Though I don't tend to look at erotic art, I do admire the skill and talent people have who enjoy drawing it. When you draw something your passionate about, don't worry about people liking or not liking it. Your Art is about you and what you love and the moment you try to 'fit in' is the moment you begin to lose why you started drawing in the first place! Feedback is always wonderful and does help (which sounds like you're getting that from other sites) and you can always upload pieces within the rules of DA policy and then post links to your other work.

For inspiration, just remember you can admire and love artwork of other artists but you don't need to draw what they do. Watch an old femme fatale movie, or take a little sketchbook with you when your out or even look at youtube and other art sites - I could name a full list!

I felt just like you do about your art and thought I didn't draw enough or draw what other people wanted and it hurts to think like that. But - once I stopped worrying and drew what I wanted (which is mostly myth and fantasy) I started to find inspiration everywhere, even from simple conversations!

Just be yourself, show as many people what you can do, and most of all be proud of what you can create!

Only reason I make fan art would be to make for convention purposes (and even then, I keep it to things I personally liked, not things that are just popular). It's hard to really be inspired to do it as much as it seems like a necessity to anime convention selling points  As far as art in general, music is one of the bigger inspirations for me. Other inspirations sources: movies, fabric patterns (I like seeing how the colors work together :shifty:), other artists about the site (usually artists that don't share a similar style to me... things too closely linked to my art tend to stagnate the content for me), food, clothing, friends, hairstyles... pretty much anything under the sun can give me an idea

As for erotic art... I've made a single issue, 22 page hentai a couple years ago, with one more partway started. The idea to try it popped in my head for more or less the same reason why you do it: it's fun and a great way to break down human anatomy  I based the concepts of it on mythology (as I always love to do). To keep me invested on doing it, I did view a lot of other indy hentai work, as well as basic human anatomy sites :).

Don't feel stuck just because you can't post it on dA. Do it for yourself because it's what you want to do :#1: Besides, I'm sure you have some sensual art that falls within the dA policy, yes? :D

Thank you for your input. x3

I can work on more "sensual" art, but I'll persist.
It's nice to hear how other people work around this.
