Ink to use with copic markers?

:icontahliadenae:
I'm looking for brands of ink that are safe to use with copics, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

I'm NOT looking for multiliners, or other pen varieties, or ink pads. I am looking for LOOSE ink, the kind that comes in bottles, so I can use dip pens/brushes. Specifically, I'm looking for coloured inks (I'm already aware of the brand Deleter, but I think they only do black and white inks that are copic-ok.)

Thanks so much in advance, guys!

I'll be monitoring this thread; I've been wondering the same thing myself. :stare:

I was going to suggest Baylee's video too, but I can see you want coloured inks. I thought deleter did coloured ones, though? ;o;
If all else fails, try pure indian ink?

this is relevant to my interests. I tried using white ink with size 0 brush for the highlights on my copic sketch cards, but the only white ink I could find seems pretty...transparent. I have a lot better luck with a gel pen. But maybe if I knew what kind of white ink to buy, it would solve the problem.

You might want to look into acrylic inks. They're not dye based, so they have a good lightfast rating, at least the ones I've used, and they use an acrylic binder, so once they've dried, that's pretty much it, you can't rewet them. You might have better luck with them in regards to copic markers making stuff smear or run. Buy a single jar to test first, though.

Thanks so much! That's very helpful! Do you know of any brands I can look out for at all? Either way, at least I'll know to be on the look out :)

I don't know what you can get in Australia, but over here the main brand I see around is by Daler Rowney. They tend to cost around the same kind of price as some of the lower series of artist's quality acrylic or Copic markers. I haven't used them much for a while now, and sometimes Copics seem to lift or smear stuff they shouldn't, but I don't think you can get binder much more rugged than acrylic. You get some of it on your clothes, and well, it ain't coming off again.

I know Winsor Newton also do coloured drawing inks, but they're dye based and aren't lightfast. They also use shellac as a binder, which is apparently fairly waterproof, but I have no idea how they might react to alcohol based markers. Personally, I much preferred the Daler Rowney inks in terms of how they handled.

I would recommend you to use the Copic multilinets, as they are made to resist cpics. Actually, they come in a large assortment of sizes and a few colors, such as wine, sepia, black or cobalt blue. The SP multiliners are a bit expensive, but the original multiliners are like 2$ each. If you don't want to buy those... well, I also use Zig Drawing pens, but I don't think that they are cheaper than original copic multiliners and they come only in black.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, but as I said above: I'm not looking for pen/multiliners; I already have, love, and use those extensively :P I'm looking for bottled ink, the kind I can use with a brush or dip pens.

Bayleecreations had a great video on the different type of pens and bottles of inks that shows which is compatible with Copic Markers and doesn't smear. :>
