Do you first draw under lines for your painting ? or do you just directly paint?i am struggling with creating backgrounds i cant always create depth .. also it is really hard to place , e.g. animals, figures etc. to a background in a proper proportions and in perspective... i need simple, yet distriptive tutorials....
sometimes I do a very light pencil sketch under and then as I color just take my time with layering and adding depth, for backgrounds I just do sometimes a wash of color or a gradient effect.
Sometimes I do a concept sketch in my sketchpad of what I want to paint, but usually I just draw straight on to the paper or canvas, then I differ when it comes to what I paint first, sometimes it's the background, other times it's the main part of the painting, it depends.
I always start out with a sketch, to make sure I've got everything down right. Then I do flats, then shades. Although I've been trying out a different method to do monochrome paintings. Still start with a sketch, though.
it is a nice idea. but its better to use a sketchbook rather than drawing directly on the canvas or paper. becuase i tend to erase too much, which makes the surface of the paper/canvas very bad..
Oh, you're talking traditional art! Sorry, I have a tendency to default to digital. Although I did take a traditional painting class and I used the same method to get everything down. The pencil wound up smudging a lot.
haha no problem yes but i have to be very careful while sketching because i tend to draw them thick so it is hard to erase your mistakes... well i think i will get used to it some time later.
If it's watercolour then I usually sketch faintly with pencil. If I'm using acrylic (like I usually do) I paint a background and base colours, usually brown or blue, for where the foreground objects will go.
