so they say to become great you need to spend 10,000 hours doing whatever that subjects happens to be. I want to improve my work and i know all i have to do is keep practicing etc but i don't seem to have the discipline to draw everyday , something always sidetracks me and then a weeks gone by and Ive done nothing.
do any of you have any advice for discipline or time keeping or pages to go for inspiration that will flat our make me just want to draw,
Its sort of what that means. Its more of working hard and studying hard, which most of the time takes 10,000 hours and having a goal to do so, helps.
For a guy named sinix, he filled 2 pages of sketchbook a day. Its not just random drawings, but studies of drawings. Studies like still lifes, drawing from many angles, etc.
And if you really want to draw, can't make excuse. From many designers, they have to make time and learn time management. Just take at the deviousness aware Rahll. He takes his time of the day to write journals about his activites, and being concept artist, he is a highly buisy man.
First of all, it's a flawed target number. Secondly, it's not about making your target in the shortest time possible. This isn't a race. Third, just doing is not enough. You actually have to learn some shit while doing, or you're not going to get anywhere near great. Spend time studying, not just practicing, and don't just study technique. Theory and history are also very important.
You need to find someway to make those hours productive and actually learn something from them. It is possible to practice for that long and learn nothing at all. I've learned that the hard way.
Lately for me it's been, "would I rather paint or do my lab report?" and I generally choose paint. Which is good for my art but not for my grades. If I'm feeling like I'm in a bit of a slump, I like to look at some of my favorite artists' galleries, and think, "hey, if I work hard enough maybe someday I can make amazing works like these!" It gives me a nice little boost, and I get out my tablet, even if it is just for a little bit of time.
