I'm working on this picture of Taylor Swift, and her earring has a large egg shaped diamond hanging from it .What my question is, how do you draw it and make it look realistic? Looking it up on google produces nothing, all i get is the lame line by line HTD a geometrically perfect diamond.
Any ideas from people really good at pencil drawing?
It is like drawing glass or ice in a drinking glass but a lot of sides. Any glare or sparkle will need to be planed so you can use the eraser for touch up.
Did you ever practice drawing a glass of water from real life? This is the first step to drawing clear objects with some degree of light reflection. Diamonds are like that, only with way more facets and reflections. Practice and practice and practice until you get it right, what else?
They way I've done diamonds and gems is to just look at pictures of diamonds and draw what you see. If you see reflections, draw them in, there will be an over all shade except for where you'll have the white white of the reflection of the light. Just focus in on that and pretend that the whole piece is just about the stone.
If you haven't drawn a lot of them I suggest a spare piece of paper to do one out on first. Longer route but better then doing it straight on the original and messing it up. Just treat the diamond like you are Taylor.
