I'm enlisting my friends as a part of a project. I give each friend a fourth of a canvas that when put together makes some overarching design, but tell them to go nuts on their particular piece. That way, I have something that's both very unique and individualistic but fits together into a big piece that works as a unit.
My question is where to get the canvases to give my friends. Currently, I'm thinking something really basic, like a white background with the black outline of a quarter circle on top (I feel it ties it together while allowing a lot of room to play) but I would be open to other suggestions. I digress. Where would I find something like that? Is there a name for what I'm trying to do? Just knowing that would be a great help. I've tried search for both that specific example and a few other ideas but I haven't come across anything yet.
If you just need a few canvases, you can find them at any art store. Get four panels, and prepare each one for the composition you are talking about. Then you can get them framed together as four panels (or just hang them like that.
