If you can't think of what to draw, then don't. Just make some random lines on a piece of paper and connect em to make whatever you see. They're called random-line sketches and require that you don't think. Let your imagination run free- free to get hit by a passing truck. Just post whatever you end up with here and see if others see what you do. I have plenty of random-line sketches in my uploads as well as recreations of them as others saw them in my favorites. Also, any recreations are welcome too. Just say which one you're recreating.
Lol, random line sketches are all i ever do. I can never think of anything to draw (a reason i'm goofing off on deviant art forums and came across this). I kid you not i am literally sitting here with an open sketch pad page full of stupid doodles. I've never posted anything because i feel my stuff isn't "up to snuff", but lately i've felt the need to make something that i can show off (which is probably the worst reason to draw, but oh well). I find it kinda funny that whenever i'm just doodling random lines i come up with something nice, but when i try it always looks horrible.... Maybe i'll start posting my stuff, see if they're worth doing in the first place.
Now that i've looked at your art and thinking about it i don't think i knew what you meant by random line sketching..... I gotta start thinking before i post lol, sorry. Though i have been doing something kinda like that. Maybe i should post some of the junk that's been collecting dust.....
it's like when you see stuff in the patterns of floor tiles or tables but with random lines you make. anyway, as disappointing as that is to hear, it's a personal rule of mine to never unwatch someone. so yea. and welcome to DA btw!
I'd hate to have attracted my first watcher under false (accidental) pretenses, but who knows you might like what i post. What's art anyway besides random lines coming together to form something?
I have been going through a lengthy stretch of artist's block until recently. So, my takes ...
1. Need to get ideas and inspirations. Almost anything that can take you there will do -- books, games, art, music, TV, movies, scribbles, whatnot. Creativity involves quite a bit of absorption and assimilation.
2. Need to find a set of tools that can help bring out spontaneous artistic activities. That is, minimizing the lag between forming an idea and artwork. A simple or the most familiar set of tools seem to be a better fit.
3. Once an idea has been formed, time for brainstorming. Let one idea to lead to another. Or, to put it another way, let the character or the story 'think' for themselves.
that's fine if that works for you, but i don't get art block. i can't draw intentionally so i just do my random-line sketches. it gives the illusion of a creative artist. it just also works for when you can't think of something. then you can redraw it again if you want in different poses or more skilled or w/e
Nice idea and your artworks are awesome! I admit that I've been many times in a block!! And I just stopped drawing until I felt motivated again. Definitely should try your trick!
