Whether I have truely regressed or whether I am just finally seeing my problem, this is scaring me. I want to go to art school, but I am faced with this glaring problem: a portfolio. I don't have any real pieces for it yet and I have until late november to have it done. Now six months is plenty to make 15 finished art pieces, but I am afraid I won't be good enough by then. I have tremendous art block and just can't even sketch Any advice?
I have felt the way you have before,I think you should calm down and try to let drawing come naturally, because your stressed,it affects your art (it seems) so instead of forcing it,just put the pen to paper and see what you get, maybe switch up what you draw or got to a new place to draw? Good Luck.
Your biggest problem seems to be the art block. I get art block when I'm not motivated or inspired. Best way to get me motivated is to draw stuff for other people. If you're like me in that way, ask your friends and family for suggestions to draw, and draw it for them. If you got no family and friends, due to some tragic set of circumstances, draw me a chicken . Point is, give yourself a purpose. You may think that getting into art school should be purpose enough, but its clearly not a tangible enough one to get you motivated. Don't worry, its completely normal. Do not procrastinate either. If you find yourself procrastinating, get off your butt. The best cure for procrastination is starting on your desired task.
I think the reason why getting into art school isn't nearly as motivating as I think it should be is because it is a prolonged gratification instead of instant gratification. Procastination just kills me ugh 50% of completing a task is just starting lol
okay, first, i've seen you progress all year. you aren't regressing, you just aren't progressing as fast as you have been in recent months. my advice is stop trying for a week, then see how you feel. odds are, you'll feel better and ready to draw again. after that, challenge yourself doing things you normally wouldn't. even if it didn't come out as well as you had hoped, it's still something and you've learned what to fix. draw what you see, draw your dreams if they're the right sort for that. draw all the things!
I think you were completely right about me just not improving as fast as I was before btw. I when from [link] to this [link] in less than 2 years! French the llama that is huge improvement! Now I am facing the really hard stuff (hands and feet, perspective, color theory, dynamic poses, ect.) and i was expecting to learn that stuff in the same amount of time! That's like expecting to learn calculus in the same time it takes to learn simple addition! Then the frustration gave me art block... anyways, thanks for the help!
