Pfft, my list is way longer than 30. I use whatever suits the project. I have a big soft sport for Bebas Neue and Bree Serif at the moment, but that's just because I'm using them at the moment. Typefaces are like colours, they all have unique ways of saying something and conveying a message.
Gotham is one of my absolute favorite typefaces for design. Auugh, so fucking lovely. But for things more accessible, I have a tendency to use futura often- helvetica's nice but I'm personally growing sick of it's tendency to become a default anymore (which is also understandable, given that it's so nicely designed and carried a lot of function because of it), but I will almost always choose Univers over it, and for a serif I tend to lean towards bodoni fairly often. Obviously it depends on the project, but those are probably my top four most used if I'm not hand rendering (and I'm also by no means an expert, given that I really don't consider myself a graphic designer).
You can't go wrong with DIN. It is an extremely versatile typeface and easy to alter and the results are pretty exceptional. Its an ideal font for any corporate identity/logo design jobs related.
i already use fontsquirrel, love it.... maybe i should have rephrased my question.... as a designer here on DA what would be your top 10 or 20 fonts for graphic design (not web design such as verdana).
There are maybe 3-4 fonts I use regularly (Helvetica Neue, Gill Sans, Myriad Pro, Palatino Linotype..) and others (for logos, headlines etc.) I pick from a huge list I have on my computer based on the nature of the project.
Woah, I was totally serious. You can google a list.
Also I'm not sure anyone is allowed to call themselves a graphic designer if they don't have a Helvetica typeface on their computer. Massimo Vignelli claims to have only used 3 fonts in his entire life. One of them being Helvetica.
