So, I got my MacBook Pro another day for University and it looks amazing so far. However, when I tried to use Paint Tool Sai on Mac to do lineart, there's no line stabilizer or pen pressure. The lines comes out shakey and messy. Does anyone know any good art programs that had the line stabilizer like Paint Tool Sai? Or maybe I should use certain settings? Also, I do have a wacom tablet called Bamboo Pen and Touch.
OK. So I just tested mine out -- even had it running in Parallels Desktop 7 (soon to be v8 right after I type this).
IT WORKS.
Pressure at least... I dunno what you mean by pen stabilisation... but yeah -- IT WORKS. There's pressure, there's most definitely everything else you'll find on Windoze. However, I reiterate my point:
YOU NEED TO INSTALL THE WACOM WINDOZE DRIVERS.
Because without this, it will NOT work. And if you're running it using Parallels, you need to go to Devices > USB > xxxx where xxxx is the name of your tablet. This is so that Parallels can connect to the USB tablet.
I hope that's solved the problem... would be great to hear if it did~!!
Indeed, you must be using SAI on a PC boot partition. To get the MOST out of your Macbook Iwould recommend ... (Depending on what sort of work you want to do) working in Photoshop and or Manga Studio EX. Stables in most digital artists artistic process. BONUS, if you set up a dual monitor to give yourself a larger desktop workspace. I find drawing off an 11 or 15 inch screen cumbersome, 17 inch or a dual monitor set-up. Have fun!
HELLO fellow Mac-user! I don't have my computer and tablet at the moment (I'm at the hospital on a follow-up) but when I get back home I'll try to check this out for you.
In the meantime, have you installed the latest Wacom drivers for Windoze? Are you running Windoze on Bootcamp or through Parallels? These things need to be taken into account.
I can't imagine any problems when running it on Bootcamp as long as you have the Wacom driver installed. I CAN however think of some potential problems if you're running it off a virtual machine like Parallels.
Either way, I'll see what I can uncover.
For those wondering -- yes you can run SAI off the Mac through Windoze, either through Bootcamp or Parallels.
But I find SAI is finicky. I am REALLY looking forward to IllustStudio!!
But like the others suggest -- you can get Adobe CS6 for FREE. Just download the trial at Adobe's website. After that, Google the PirateBay
There won't be an illuststudio for mac. But Celsys (It's main company) has released Clip Studio Paint and it's available now for windows and mac. IT'S LOVELY! <3
There's firealpaca (It's free) , manga studio (Great for lineart, though you need to pair it with something for coloring), Clip Studio Paint (Great tools and options, it's in Japanese only as of now, but on the Sai forum there's a patch to make it into English), Sketchbook pro or their free versions Sketchbook express, artrage.
If you're desperate enough you can install windows on your mac via bootcamp and use Sai there. But that's a lot of effort for one program.
