Am I making any actual progress?

:iconparjanyavictor:
I understand that art takes a long time to improve at and I have been slowly working at it till now where I am doing something everyday. But it oft feels as if I'm not making any real progress even with 13-15 pieces attempted.

I have the books and such but nothing really seems to stick very well.

Am I really improving? Is there something I'm missing.

Overall I am frustrated at myself as if I'm just failing hard.

You should look at my newest deviations for starters. The linearts were pretty crooked and I just started using a tablet just two weeks ago (first time to own and use a tablet, btw). I'm not really all that good (I haven't drawn anything since last year due to my thesis and not to mention that I have a slightly shaky hand-a VERY bad combination for me) so I have a trouble at making progress in my drawings too (In addition to that, I suck in color mixing and stuff :\ ) but hey, that's where practicing comes, right? You just need to practice, practice, practice! I'm sure that you'll improve soon enough. :)

Well After a month I've noticed I have improved though I may have taken a step or three backwards at some point.

Making process often goes painfully slow, and most of the time you'd be the last one to see your own progress.
Just keep working, keep track of your sketches, and try to make something new every now and then. It might take you months, or even years to see, but eventually you'll see your own progress.

I definitely notice somethings are getting easier at least.

Just like anything else you have to work for it. All that BS of people born with talent is false ,well in my opinion. It depends on how much effort/work,time, and dedication you are willing to put in.If you are trying to draw people for example, start out trying to draw eyes but actually STUDY by looking either at photos, tutorials,or in real life time. Observation is key like observe what makes an eye an eye like what shapes is it made up of. So whenever you feel like giving up,work 10xs harder and push yourself because in the end you will be glad you did. I hope you everything goes well for you hun <3

I couldn't agree with you more. Its BS that people are born with talent, its something that must be learned like anything else. Betty Edward's book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" proved that
