Seeking opinions!

:iconmirandaroberts:
Been doing lots of practice lately for digital artwork, haven't been in the swing of doing speedpaints and just miscellaneous pictures and was hoping to get some opinions from you awesome deviants. 8D Specifically for my Charizard speedpaint.

Also, I'm taking art trades if anyone is interested. <3

I like the energy, and it's really not bad for a speedpaint. I do agree with =Cnids though, I think the coloring kind of mushes together a bit because it's all so similar. If you want to stick with lineless work I'd suggest really sharpening the contrast between your blocks of color and cleaning up the edges of things, just to keep some clarity and help promote the details. It's really easy for things to bleed together without the extra distinction of dark lines. Try adding more variety next time, like instead of just darker orange maybe try browns for the shades?

In this particular case it's a little more apparent because we're seeing fire on top of a fire colored monster. Maybe try toning down Charizard's colors and leaving the fire brighter; against the blue sky even a darker shade of orange naturally looks bright so he'll retain the energy while still putting the focus on the fire.

The composition is interesting though! Really not a bad piece, I've seen much worse Pokemon art ha ha. Just a few tweaks here and there and you ought to have a nice little image to add to your gallery.

The pose and stuff isn't bad but the colouring is really muddy. The colours are too monochromatic; like, Charizard is bright oranges and yellows against a blue sky; he wouldn't necessarily be that bright in real life. You've got a big thing of fire which should be giving off a lot of light, but your light source seems to coming from a few different directions. The wings and leg have light from the top, the tail and foot have it from the right side. And then you've got a bright orange light coming from the bottom left on the legs/tail, but then it kind of shows up coming from the middle right on the wings.

I think this might look better with some subtle lineart to give things more definition, but right now the colouring is too mushy and blendy to read well. I'm not crazy about the bright yellow fire either; most fire is more orangey.

Thanks for your comment!

One thing I also noticed about the fire is it's spinning the wrong direction for how Charizard would be turning in the air.
