So i was wondering if anybody can help me in telling me which art majors offer digital painting as a course. I am going to be a senior in highschool this year and am interested in art. Specifically in digital art so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure there is any. Some classes let you do your own style of work, which is where you would come in with your digital painting style, but other than that I'm not sure any colleges or universities offer a class only for that, especially not one that teaches you. Hope this helps!

which art majors offer digital painting as a course

From what your saying this sentence, we could easily say all of majors offer digital painting, because a course can just easily be an elective (extra for your classes) and a course does not mean its going to be your major. I could be a fine artist, but still take digital painting as an elective to fulfill a requirement.

Looking for art college? Just treat it as if was a regular college. Tour the campus, find out about the teachers, sit in the classes, and how far are you willing to travel to get to college. Never go to a college just because it has one good course of painting.

Now then again, you might mean digital painting as a major requirement to your major. Pretty much its the entertainment industry that uses digital art (concept art, illustration, animation, etc.), and a few art gallery who do alot of digital work.

And digital art is pretty broad term. It just basically means art you do with a computer.

Thank you, I will totally keep it in mind and as of a major, i think that i should go towards illustration. Its the major that mostly stands out to me.

There may be some colleges that offer one or maybe a few digital art specific classes, but I wouldn't base a college decision on that. You cannot go wrong with a fine arts or illustration major. It's essential to learn traditional drawing techniques whether you may like it or not it vastly improves what you are capable of digitally. Especially in Corel Painter programs.

Also I feel I should mention I have never had formal training in either traditional or digital art and learned everything through trial and error. I actually have a pretty successful freelance thing going on right now for charcoal portraits and all kinds of digital work (e.g. logos for t shirts, anatomical drawings, graphic novel work). I was actually in college for architectural drafting and left to go to mortuary school and today I am working as an autopsy technician for the medical examiner of Pittsburgh. All the drawing skills I learned from drafting combined with all the anatomy I learned from school and dissecting has brought me to where I am today.

So basically you don't even need a major in an art to become an artist so keep your options open because you may need a degree in something else later on. Most artists have regular jobs too.

I am not sure if there is a standalone major for Digital Painting (there are courses/diploma for that, but not university major as far as I know).
However, most art majors like Illustration, Animation, 3D Art, or Graphic Design will give you at least digital painting basics.

To make things easier, I think it's better if you find a university that you're interested in enrolling, then send them an e-mail regarding their course syllabus. :)

Thank you for your feedback. There is an university i am interested in and their illustration program includes a digital illustration course, so i think that might be the best fit for me.
