I'm brand-new to digital art, and I desperately need a tablet. However, my funds are extremely low. The guy at Best Buy recommended the Intuos, which would be my first choice, but there's no way I'd be able to afford that right now. I checked out the Wacom web site and found out they have a new Bamboo tablet called Splash, which seems aimed at newcomers to digital art. If anyone has this, is too basic, or is it a useful tool?
I've only read up a little on the Bamboo Splash, but what I've seen is a tiny tablet, no pen eraser, no touch surface, and little pressure sensitivity. I have a Bamboo Create, I love the thing. It's the biggest Bamboo tablet available, it has good pressure levels (gives it more of a pen and paper feel and is SUPER handy for making smooth looking art), the pen eraser is my best friend (I love being able to program the eraser end well) and it's touch sensitive, so I can use it as a trackpad when I don't want to find my mouse. If you think you're going to be getting into Digital Art, I think I'd get the create and use it for awhile. The Intuos line is for professional digital artists and has a lot of features a beginner wouldn't use, IMO.

As for usefulness, it's mainly the size of the tablet versus your screen that you need to consider. Some people are perfectly fine with a little tablet, while others hate it because they want to be able to draw with their entire arm. If you can find someone/somewhere that'll let you try it out, do.
