For whatever reason, with photoshop I'm halfway decent at painting backgrounds, but with painter 12... I don't know. I think I'm having trouble finding the right brushes to work with. I don't know how to manipulate them to my liking (a bit rough, hard and textured) without making the whole thing look smeary and weird. I need some nice tutorials for painting detailed backgrounds and such with painter, because I just can't figure it out. Any tips?
My advice is to stick with Photoshop. Painter does an amazing job at emulating traditional media which includes often being unpredictable and frustrating!
I took "Painting in Painter" on Schoolism.com and as soon as I was done I took all of my newly acquired skills back to photoshop and never looked back.
